Indianola Public Library

A woman of resources

Joyce Godwin has the answers to your questions. And if she doesn’t, as director of the Indianola Public Library, she can certainly give you the resources for finding those answers.

Godwin has directed the day-to-day activities of the library for the previous 13 months. Before becoming director, she was manager of the largest branch of the Sioux City Public Library in Sioux City. Besides budget, personnel and maintaining the building, she is responsible for ordering books and materials, keeping the joint Simpson College and Indianola card catalog system current, and yes, she answers questions.

A native of Indianola, Godwin said she enjoys being back in the area as well as having direct contact with the Indianola Library Board and the Indianola City Council.

“I like it all,” Godwin said of her responsibilities. “Especially the chance to create ideas and carry them through. You don’t always have that in middle management.”

In her spare time, Godwin enjoys reading, needlework, and travel. She has a trip to Alaska planned for August. Other travels have taken her to Spain and the Mediterranean. She has also developed an interest in gardening since moving back, a hobby she had little room for in Sioux City.
