A message from Police Chief Steve Bonnett:
On the behalf of the officers and staff of the Indianola Police Department, I welcome you to the Indianola Police Department web page. This site was designed to make our department more accessible and familiar to our residents. I hope the information contained herein will provide you with a better understanding of the resources and services offered by our department.
The Indianola Police Department endeavors to maintain a safe and secure community through assertive, progressive and professional service. We are very proud of the high quality and character of each of our officers. The City of Indianola is fortunate to have the level of dedication and commitment that is exhibited on a daily basis by our officers. While we are proud of our staff and their accomplishments, we also recognize that without the unparalleled support that we receive from the Indianola community, none of our accomplishments could have been realized. Police K-9
The Indianola Police purchased their present K-9 from Guardian Angel Kennels out of Dubuque, Iowa, in August of 1995. The present K-9 is a 4 1/2 year old Czechoslovakian German Shepard by the name of Major. Major is a multi-purpose patrol K-9. His handler (Office Ron Hamell) is an 11 year veteran of the Indianola Police Department. All of Major's commands are in German. Major is trained to detect three types of illegal drugs including Marijuana, Cocaine, and Methamphetamines. He is also trained in tracking, handler protection, building searches, and article searches. The Indianola Police K-9 Unit is currently a member of the United States Police Canine Association.
