SECOND COMBUSTION TURBINE PURCHASED

   On December 6, 1999, the IMU Board of Trustees signed a contract to purchase a second combustion turbine.  The unit is a 1982 GE Frame  turbine generator capable of producing 23 MW's of new generation capacity which is projected to meet the Indianola's electric demand until the year 2016.
   Indianola is very fortunate to own its electric system and have the generating capability to serve 100% of our electric demand. As a result, Indianola becomes an "interruptible" customer for MidAmerican Energy which means they can interrupt or divert our power source in times of peak demand. When this occurs, IMU personnel start our generating units to provide energy to the entire city.  As an "interruptible" customer,

SALEM/ASHLAND PAVING PROJECT


The City Council unanimously approved the Salem/Ashland Paving Project at their meeting on December 6, 1999. Salem, from Hwy. 65/69 to "F' in addition to the section between 3rd and 4th streets, and, Ashland from Hwy. 65/69 to "G" will be replaced. The City will receive bids on February 17 and consider them at the February 22 council meeting.  The project is scheduled to start in the spring with a possible completion date of November 1, 2000.
