Can We Do Our Part?

This is the tenth anniversary for the Metro Waste Authorities household hazardous waste collection program. As a host to a satellite site and one-day collection events we’ve helped divert over 800,000 pounds of hazardous material from our landfills and groundwater.

We’re pulling together to help reach the 1,000,000 pound mark during their tenth anniversary year. So as you prepare for your spring cleaning of the house and garage remember to dispose of household hazardous waste properly.

Our collection site is located at the Indianola Brush Facility at the end of West Iowa Avenue. Beginning April 3rd materials will be accepted Thursdays, Noon – 7 pm; Saturdays, 9 am – 3 pm; and Sundays,
Noon – 4 pm free of charge for residential material.

What is accepted? Accepted materials include: stain and varnish, drain and oven cleaners, weed killer, gasoline and kerosene, aerosol cleaners, oil and lead-based paint, ammonia-based cleaners, petroleum-based adhesives, rechargeable batteries, fertilizers and pesticides, metal polishes and rust removers, sharps/needles/syringes, and fluorescent light bulbs.
