The Indianola fire department has created this web site for many different reasons. First and foremost, we feel that our community has a vested interest in being informed about the activities of their fire department. Statistical analysis provided by the fire department personnel with the assistance of FIREHOUSE Software® will help the community keep up to date on current trends in the community and compare them to state/national trends. Awareness of such statistics will allow the community to respond to specific needs, and work together to minimize risk. Along the line of educating the public about trends, we also hope to work fire safety into the equation. Thus our second priority in creating this web site is community education about fire safety, and personal safety. The members of the IFD are increasingly interested in teaching about fire safety and about the world of emergency services. This site is dedicated to spreading the word about fire safety to everyone from young children through the teenage yeas and on to parents & grandparents. Our goal is to fight fires with education, in turn reducing the numbers of emergent situations in our community and beyond.

Tradition is a long-standing part of the fire service and is held with highest respect by its every member. We would like to carry on that tradition by integrating it with today's technology. The administration of the IFD believes that it is important that the community understands the history of its fire department and the honorable members that unselfishly serve its community past and present. We invite you to get to know an important part of the history of your community and those who have served on the Indianola Fire Department past, present, and future.

If anyone knows about the fire service, they know that being a part of fire/EMS means constant training for events we hope we never have to face. We are eternally committed to the Fire & Emergency Services, and want to extend our education and interests to our brethren firefighters. We feel that we are fortunate to have a strong organization with firefighter/EMS personnel that are always looking to the next level in training. We hope to put our training, knowledge, and skills to work for fellow firefighters. Many of our personnel have shown interest in publishing their own articles, as well as providing fire/EMS related articles of interest so that we may combine surfing the web with our commitment to further education.

The Indianola Fire Department is a 'combination' fire department. This means that we are a combination of volunteer, part time, and full time members. We are greatly thankful to the city for its financial support in hiring 6 new full time staff members this last year. Although the community has provided the money to hire these six full time firefighter/paramedics, the IFD still relies as heavily on it's volunteers as it does on donations from the community and it's businesses. Such funds are utilized for for training equipment, EMS/fire equipment, training, and a number of other very important items. The funds that are donated are divided up according to the needs of the department based on the decisions of the association. Many of the things that we have purchased from donations have had a profound impact on our productivity and ability to do what we do best (serve the community). Many local businesses have donated monney, time, merchandise, or good will toward the department so that we could purchase some of the tools that make your lives safer in our hands. We hope that the community will recognize the importance of the generosity of these sponsors, and will help us thank them for their generosity by giving your patronage to those organizations.

Finally we hope that this web site will provide entertainment with its educational content, and has been (or will be) an enlightening visit. Please visit us often, our web site will be updated on a regular basis, in order to best serve the afore mentioned commitments. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns - please direct them to IFD, as we read every e-mail and intend to update the site as requested.
