Career Information

Indianola Fire Department utilizes full-time, part-time and paid-on-call personnel to provide staffing for ambulance and fire/rescue apparatus. Applications are accepted for part-time and paid-on-call positions.

The minimum qualifications for full-time and part-time applicants include the following certifications: Iowa EMT-Basic, Paramedic or Paramedic Specialist certification, current certification in Basic Life Support and/or Fire Fighter I and II certifications. In addition, Paramedic and Paramedic Specialist certifications require current certification in ACLS.

Paid-on-call personnel must be 18 years of age and have a valid Iowa Drivers’ License. While certification as an Iowa EMS provider and/or Firefighter is helpful, it is not required. The Training Division of the Indianola Fire Department coordinates an annual Recruit Academy for personnel in need of Firefighter I and II certification and/or EMT-Basic.
