It’s time to come inside to play! The Buxton Room at the Activity Center will be set up with “Little Tikes” toys, “Koosh” ball games, blocks, slide, basketball hoop, mats, and other toddler toys to play with.

For children age 1 - preschool accompanied by an adult. Fee: $1.00 per child per visit ($9 for a 10-punch card)

The playground is closed when Indianola Schools are on holiday or closed due to weather.

Tuesday, November 3 - Thursday, March 11
Noon Power Walk
Tuesdays & Thursdays 12:05 - 12:50 p.m.

Don't let winter weather stop you from exercising - use your lunch hour to boost your energy and burn off calories using Leslie Sansone's "3 mile Weight Loss Walk." We'll pop in the 45 minute DVD and you'll be amazed at the energetic workout you'll get and the fun you'll have with music that keeps you moving.

$1 daily, or $9 for 10-punch card

Exciting softball action awaits you and your friends! Games will be played at the Pickard Park Youth Softball Fields and Moats Softball Field.

Coaches will contact players after March 24 with practice dates & times. Practices will begin the week of March 29 or after, scheduled outside of game dates & times.

Registration Deadline for Lifeguard Training
Are you interested in becoming a certified lifeguard?

The Indianola Parks and Recreation Department is offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course over Spring Break. Training focuses attention on skills and knowledge required to assume the responsibilities of a lifeguard. Completion of the course includes a physical and written test. The class includes the following certification: Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid. Participants must be 15 years old by March 23; be able to swim 500 yards continuously using the front crawl, side stroke, and breaststroke for a minimum of 100 yards each stroke; surface dive and retrieve a 10 pound object from a minimum dept of 7 feet; be able to tread water for 2 minutes using legs only. Books and materials supplied for use during class. If you successfully complete the course and are hired at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center, reimbursement may be made for training fees.

Pics in the Park 2010 Digital Photography Contest
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Send us your best original photo that captures your favorite Go Play! moment in one of Indianola’s parks! Our contest is open to amateur photographers of all ages. First, second, and third place winners will receive a professional 8x10 print of their photograph. The first place winner will also receive a $25 gift certificate. All winning photographs
will be published in the next Activity Guide and will be displayed in an on-line photo exhibit on our website.

It's easy to enter the contest! Go to www.indianolaparks.com/photocontest for official rules, list of eligible parks and online entry form.

Then grab your camera and Go Play! Make sure you take lots of photos of your friends and family having fun in the parks! Walking, running, playing, swimming, skateboarding, playing soccer or softball, picnicking, enjoying a concert…the possibilities are unlimited!
(You may enter multiple times, but one photo per entry form please).

Register online for 2010 Spring & Summer programs & activities and save $2 per program.

To register online, you must already have a Parks & Recreation account and know your PIN and barcode in order to check out.

If you lose or forget your numbers, you can have that information e-mailed to you, as long as you have a valid email address on file with Indianola Parks & Recreation.

Please call the office during regular office hours (8am - 5pm Mon-Fri) to set up a new account, to update your email address or to receive your Client Barcode and account PIN. You cannot set up a new account online.

55 + Activity Idea Gatherings

We are looking for input on possible activities to offer for our citizens over 55. If you have an idea for a class, program, seminar, activity, event, or would like to lead or instruct, we would like to hear from you. Each month on the 2nd Tuesday at 10:45 we will gather to toss out ideas and include all who are interested in more activities. If you can’t make the meeting time, feel free to give us a call at 961-9420. March 9, April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, August 10.

Indianola Resident Adopt-a-Tree Program
Indianola residents may adopt one or two $40-$60 trees through this program for only $25. The tree must be planted in a residential yard within the Indianola city limits. The resident may plant the tree themselves, or have the tree planted for htem. There is an additional fee for staking and mulching. The resident agrees to properly water and care for the tree for the life of the tree.

Forty trees are being made available for this program through Indianola Parks & Recreation by the Indianola Community Tree Committee.

Save $5 on Aquatic Center Passes
Receive the pre-season $5 discount if you purchase a pool pass by Friday, April 30. Passes can be purchased at the Indianola Parks & Recreation office, 2204 W. 2nd Avenue. (515) 961-9420.

New cards are required for 2010 - previous years' cards will not be accepted. Adults will be issued new cards, but will not need to have pictures retaken for their 2010 swim passes.

Swimmers 17 and under, and adults who have not yet had their picture taken will need to come to the Parks and Recreation office to do so.

Regular office hours are 8am - 5pm Monday - Friday. Extended office hours for pool pass sales only will be held Tuesday, April 20, from 5-8 pm and Saturday, June 5 from 8-11 am.

Dance with Maurie Goode & the Country Gentlemen
7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
All ages invited to this dance featuring the classic country sounds of Maurie Goode and the Country Gentlemen at the Indianola Activity Center, 2204 W. 2nd Avenue (Hwy 92W). Doors open at 6 PM. $5/person at the door.

Proceeds go to the Indianola Area Senior Center.

Easter Egg Coloring Day
Indianola Activity Center, 2204 W. 2nd Avenue (Hwy 92)

Mark your calendar for the 3rd annual Easter Egg coloring day from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. All the fun without any of the cleanup! Children can color eggs, get tattoos, play Wii games and more. $4.00 per child. Please call (515) 961-9420 to reserve a spot for your children.
