Tot Splash Time - Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Children ages 5 and under, along with an adult, can have some fun together splashing around the small pool at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center. Slip down the slide, scurry through the sand play area or tinker around with our Gadgets & Gizmos water feature!

Fee: $1.50 per person, including adults (season pass does not apply to this program)
Accompanying adult must be 16 years of age or older and supervising no more than two children. Children 6-15 will not be admitted.

Thursday, July 2
Thursday Night Live at Salem Court
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Summer entertainment on the south side of The Square in Indianola, with free popcorn, live music and live art!

This month features the Gillenwater Girls and artist Lisa Huyette.

Sisters Laura, 17, and Natalie, 15, play a variety of music on the violin, string bass and banjo. Indianola Middle School art teacher, Lisa Huyette, is a former painter for the award winning studio “Sticks”.

Hy-Vee will be providing a hamburger/hot dog meal for $5.00 as a Salem Court fundraiser.

Bring a friend and come to the Aquatic Center for this great party just for teens entering Middle School & High School. This month’s party will feature a dive-in movie, School of Rock, on our giant screen!

Red, White and Blue Day at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center
1:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Show your spirit by wearing red, white and blue to the pool on Independence Day and receive a coupon for a tasty treat from the snack bar!

Thursday Lunch & Listen at Salem Court
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Summer entertainment on the south side of The Square in Indianola, with free popcorn each week!

This month featuring barbershop quartet The Bandstand 4, the Toast of Milo's 4th of July Party.

Grab a sandwich from a local restaurant and enjoy!

Friday, July 10
Friday Night Family Float
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Bring the family to the Aquatic Center and float your cares away. Rafts, inner tubes, noodles and other flotation devices will be allowed during this time. All children must be accompanied by at least one parent/adult. This is a time set aside especially for families.

Season Pass or daily admission.
Buy one admission and get the second admission free!

City State Bank Starlight Cinema Outdoor Movie

Bring blankets or lawn chairs to McCord Park and watch a free family-friendly movie under the stars. Free popcorn courtesy of Fridley Theatres. Candy and drinks also available.

Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting at Pickard Park

The Indianola Parks & Recreation Commission will be holding their next 5 monthly meetings at different city parks starting in June. Commission chair Jay Byers said, “this will not only provide an opportunity for Commission members to see the parks first hand, but it may also increase public attendance at the meetings.”

The outside meetings will be held at the times and dates listed below. All meetings are open to the public. Anyone who would like to address the Parks & Recreation Commission at one of their meetings will need to call the Parks & Recreation Department at 961-9420 by the Thursday before each meeting to be put on the agenda.

Meetings will be held at 5:30pm on Wednesdays at the park shelters
June 17 at Moats Park, Hwy 65-69 & Girard Ave.
July 15 at Pickard Park, 2 mi. E of Hwy 65-69 on Hwy 92
August 19 at Downey Dog Playground, K St. &K 17th Ave.
September 16 at Memorial Park, N. G St. &K W. Euclid Ave.
October 21 at McCord Park, S. P St. & W. 5th Ave.

Peoples Bank Music in the Park - Soul Searchers
7:00 PM
Bring blankets or lawn chairs to Pickard Park for this concert featuring Soul Searchers. The Des Moines Register calls them "the band that's obviously meant to play the blues." Their music, rooted in traditional blues with healthy doses of rockabilly and swing, has made this three-piece combo the hardest working blues band in Des Moines.

Friday, July 31
Dance with Maurie Goode & the Country Gentlemen
7:00 PM
All ages invited to this dance featuring the classic country sounds of Maurie Goode and the Country Gentlemen at the Indianola Activity Center, 2204 W. 2nd Avenue (Hwy 92W). Doors open at 6 PM. $5/person at the door.

Proceeds go to the Indianola Area Senior Center.
