Have you noticed pink paint along portions of your sidewalk? The City of Indianola is performing their sidewalk inspection program. The painted area indicates a portion of sidewalk that needs to be repaired. The City will be sending out letters to property owners notifying them of the necessary repairs. Property owners will have 30 days from receipt of the notice to repair the sidewalk. Section 26-72 of the City Code Ordinance states:
“It shall be the duty of all owners or occupants of lots of lands within the City to keep in repair all sidewalks in front of or abutting any property owned or occupied by them. The Council may cause to be repaired all broken or defective sidewalks when in an unsafe, broken or defective condition. In the event that the property owner refuses or neglects to make repairs, the Council shall order the work done and the cost thereof may be collected as special taxes, as provided by Section 364.12 of the Code of Iowa.”

Indianola RAGBRAI needs your help. Riders are looking for a place to spend the night on July 21st. If you have an empty bed, bare floor, or extra yard space for a tent and would like to meet new people please contact Martha West at 961-7928. Riders are not seeking your food or entertainment but a shower and bathroom would be wonderful!
If you are not able to host someone but still interested in being involved with the festivities, please go to www.indianolaragbrai.com to sign up to volunteer or call Mark Davitt at 962-9345. You can pick an area that interests you or just volunteer and be placed where needed. You are also able to select the time that works best with your schedule.
Thank you on behalf of the Indianola RAGBRAI committee.
Between 15,000 and 25,000 RAGBRAI riders will be passing through town on July 21st and 22nd. Some riders will be camping at the high school, while others will be at Simpson College. There will be temporary no-parking sings posted posted around town for Tuesday, July 21st. Access to and from some driveways could be limited.
We are asking all homeowners to make their yards and houses as attractive as possible. Suggestions include:
Mow the weekend before July 21st Sweep sidewalk and driveway Spray for weeds Plant flowers in front yard Touch up paint Haul away debris Trim low branches and bushes
We are encouraging the use of red geraniums wherever possible
